What is the general formula for alkanes?
Cn Hn+2 (n represents the number of carbon atoms)

Describe and explain the trend in boiling point.
As the chain gets longer/bigger (it has strong intermolecular forces) they have higher boiling points.
Because it is harder to separate the bonds.
